I sang a verse of this spontaneously this morning while waiting for my pancake. The rest of it came from there. Given enough sugar and caffeine, we can do anything. It was an awful lot of fun.

A happy Christmas to all who celebrate it!

We just listened to Jonathan Winters doing "A Christmas Carol". It was way fun, Winters does very good voices for most of the characters. It was on NPR, if you get a chance take the time to sit down with some eggnog and enjoy.

Or I suppose if I was [ profile] tronella I'd say, "!Christmas."

It has been a strange and !Christmas kind of Christmas. [ profile] derien and I have been distracted with other things and neither of us has been in a Christmas mood at all. We agreed at the end of November not to buy presents for each other this year until after Christmas if at all. I think that's what completely killed the Christmas spirit for me. I love to buy gifts for [ profile] derien and I think coming up with presents for her is what gets me in a Christmas mood. And the weather. It's been way too warm and sunny here for late December. The grass is still green, it's as bad as trying to celebrate Christmas in Florida!

That said, other people seem to have managed to get with the spirit of the season. We've got one wall awash with cards. It is an amazing display of international ambition and motivation. Please be assured our cards will be going out shortly and those of you on the other side of the world should be getting them by St. Valentine's Day.

Of special note: a fic by and a pic from [ profile] daegaer, a book from [ profile] chrisscorkscrew, a book and a bunch of other stuff from [ profile] mizzmarvel. May each of you get something special from the deity or anthropomorphic personification of your choice.

My mom bought us a Roomba! I'll post more about that in a separate post, but ROBOT! it's fascinating. My mom also sent us a pair of tea cups and a bunch of teas. My sister sent us a selection of Indian and Thai sauces.

[ profile] derien is recovering pretty well from the removal of her wisdom teeth. I've been struggling with too many things on my to do list and too little motivation. Today I've made some headway which is a good sign.

Oh, Merry Christmas everyone!

"And these children that you spit on,
As they try to change their world.
They're immune to you consultations,
They're quite aware of what they're going through." - Bowie "Changes"

As of Christmas Eve I'm no longer on prescription meds. I feel good emotionally and physically. I'm more awake and energetic than I have been in a couple of months but that may be a coincidence of other things.

I've been listening to the Assemblage 23 that [ profile] daegaer sent in the Christmas box. It's interesting goth/industrial/dance music. Never pictured [ profile] daegaer as a goth. :)

I'm not quite at the point where I can sit down in front of the computer and work for hours on end, but my ability to concentrate and work steadily is improving.

Each morning this week I've said to myself, "I'm leaving work on time today." I lie. I lie like a rug. Like a lying thing. Like a lyre.

In myth, Santa has elves, Sinter Klaas has Black Pete. In reality, there are people like me. We accept our fate, sometimes willingly, sometimes grudgingly. We work long hours so that other people can get their gifts.

Today I stayed late again. No one told me I had to. But the work I did means, among other things, that 20 more kids will get sleds for Christmas.

than what I expect from me." -- Jimmy Buffet "It's My Job"

I can't believe I didn't remember this song when making my Christmas mix. I must go flog myself no for this omission. Or perhaps I'll just go dance around.
