tradition

Well, it's that time of year again the trees are starting to bud and the grass has shrugged off its dirty brown hue. That means it's time to make a pilgrimage to the cemetery. No, I'm not going to get a new body, though I could certainly use one. This is a tradition that doesn't have any negative connotations.

When my grandfather was alive he always wanted to go place flowers at my grandmother's grave just before Memorial Day. When he was no longer living in the area, I made sure it got done for him. I like the cemetery it has tall old trees between the rows of gravestones. It's a beautiful place on a warm sunny day. Not like the newer cemeteries that are divided by paved drives and bare of shade. This is a place you can sit among the stones or wander from stone to stone reading the names of relatives.

I don't go to fulfill my grandfather's obligation anymore. I go to pay my respects to him and enjoy a nice spot on a sunny day.
