indulgence
Last night we went out to eat! We usually only indulge a cheap take away about once a month, but last night we actually went out and sat down. And we were fed. And it was good. I proved to be a formidable carnivore and a cheap drunk. I hadn't eaten all day or I think the night before, so the alcohol went straight to all the vital places.
Today after laundry and a few other minor obligations I was drawn to indulge again. I went to the used bookstore up the street and actually bought something! I got Henry Miller's "A Devil in Paradise", Jimmy Buffet's "Where is Joe Merchant?", John Steinbeck's "Cannery Row" and "Of Mice and Men", Nabokov's "Lolita" and a big thick book of English poetry. The poetry was the most expensive at $8. It's a hard cover with 1100 pages so I feel like it's still a deal.
I looked at the sci-fi but the paper quality is so cheap in most of it that I can't even open the books without my histamine levels spiking. So I went with the more academic works which are often printed on paper that doesn't disintegrate so quickly.
