Funny how words can change. Today everyone refers to boomers. You know those people who are now buy the mercedes SUVs and mutual funds. Baby boomers, created when Johnny came marching home. But that's a recycled word like rainbow flags are recycled symbols.

What did a boomer used to be? A boomer was a transient worker whether by inclination or by necessity. Today's equivalents would be temps and/or migrant workers. Not having unemployment compensation to worry about often meant hiring a lot of workers for a short while was more attractive than keeping fewer workers for a prolonged period of time. The Australian version of the word is swagman. Dig into where the saying "waltzing matilda" came from if you want some interesting word history.

So there were boomers once. Now there is a new version of boomers.

"For pennies they're bought,
and for promises sold."
Utah Phillips "All Used Up"

Oh, don't get me started on the use of the word as it pertains to big iron fish that can destroy the world as we know it.
