I wasn't able to really get into the characters or the locations of "The Sun Also Rises" as much as I did "Green Hills of Africa." I did like the slow revealing of how Jake differed so from those he was with and the extent of his understanding. The drunken banter filled dialog rang as a true portrait and irritated me just as it would have if I ran into it sober in real life. Hemingway has a way of revealing the darker parts of human nature in a startlingly fine etched detail. You're not tempted to say, "Are we really that cruel to each other?" It's there in life, it just takes a typewriter and a talent to bring it into focus.
