I got my book jacket covers from the UPS man today. I had decided on an assortment pack of Brodart Archival Quality Center-Slit sheets.

Before I ordered these I was checking out how to apply the covers. Some of the books I received with jackets already on have been taped front cover to inside of jacket. Since my goal is preserving and protecting the book, I decided that wasn't the way to go. I did want to tape the covers on because then you can leave them on when you read the book, which is half the point anyway. So I figured I would tape the outside of the jacket to the inside of the jacket. This means the tape is visible on the front of the jacket, but the jacket stays on and it's not taping the book.

The variety pack has sizes to fit most of my books right off. The application is easy and looks sweet. I did over a dozen hardbacks this evening. I haven't quite perfected my technique. I still occasional get a loose jacket with a slight ripple, but even the worst of my covers still looks quite good. I strongly recommend these book jackets if you have hardcovers you'd like to keep in good condition. They are protective and I think pretty.

I'm going to look into Brodart's clear products for my older hardcovers which don't have dust covers.
