more experiments
Jun. 19th, 2003 12:06 pmLast night I tried a new dish, a red lentil concoction (lentils, tumeric, ginger, garlic, cumin, fenugreek, gram masala, tomato) in which I nearly followed the recipe. It got favorable reviews from the review board. It's not my favorite flavor, so I'll probably only cook it in the future as a side dish when I want to make a big lavish meal. I think it'll work really well as a mild side next to a strong main dish or as a vegan alternative. It's not that hard to make although it takes a lot of time on the stove.
While I was waiting for that to cook I made another batch of curry sauce and stuck it in the freezer and made attempt number two at pappadums. Attempt number one crumbled to ashes after one day of drying time. It literally crumbled. I think the taste would have been fine, but if I tried to cook them I would have had to use cheesecloth to extract them from the oil. Yesterday's batch seems much more cohesive but I'm concerned if they will dry enough. For this batch I completely disreguarded the cooking method in the recipe and did it my own way. At least this time they aren't disintegrating.
Tonight I'm going to rebuild the downstairs neighbor's computer. After two days on the phone with Dell and Roadrunner, he's got an electronic paperweight. The registry is hosed and I would be surprised if there aren't some corrupt files in there somewhere. I'll reformat and reinstall for him and get him on the net.
