For the last two weeks my spare time has been almost entirely consumed by scanning [livejournal.com profile] derien's old pictures and writings. They have been stuck in a box and moved from closet to closet for better than a decade now. Opening the box caused nasal and respiratory distress so [livejournal.com profile] derien couldn't even look back through the stuff. I decided if they were going to be preserved and accessible again the only recourse would be to scan them. To minimize the grief from the dust I tried to get it done as quickly as possible.

I tend to start a project and work on it obsessively, sometimes until I complete it, sometimes until I lose interest, or until some other shiny thing distracts me into another project. When I'm in that kind of mode I can get a lot done on a particular thing, but can sometimes end up neglecting things like food, sleep, or everything else in the universe.

Today I am finishing up this batch of scanning. The final total will end up somewhere around 2,300 pages, some large, some small, all turned into 300DPI jpegs. Overall I think the project went very well, although I will be so happy to be done. I just have to burn out the results to CD and DVD, then I'll be able to reclaim my drive space. During the course of the project I got to see all kinds of pictures that she drew through the years. I was amazed by some, delighted by many.

In other news, it's snowing outside today and looks very pretty. Of course, driving will be awful and parking bans will probably ensue, but it still looks pretty.

Last weekend it was so warm I actually went outside and worked on the van. I got the new spare tire on its rim and put on the new holder for the spare. Now I've got a spare I can trust on the same kind of rim as the rest. Trips with the van are looking less risky.
