Mar. 18th, 2005 07:29 pmI always find it kind of weird when people at work say, "I'm underpaid. Starting pay at such and such is $x." I can't help but think, "if overall such and such a place is overall a better deal, then why don't you go there? There must be some reason you are staying that offsets the pay or you'd be gone to the place that pays more." My company provides what I believe is a reasonable combination of compensation, benefits, and work environment. I have been in much lower paying positions, with fewer benefits, and much less consideration for workers health. Yes, I admit I could get paid more, but the sacrifices I would have to make are not worth it to me at this point. Although I still get an emotional charge out of people calling on the phone asking me if I would be interested.
Speaking of benefits, I bought this neat little headlamp for around the campsite at night and/or emergency down hiking after dark.
derien says I'm not to point it at her in the house. It is fairly bright even on its lowest setting. I wish I'd had it when I was working up under the dash of the Metro last year.
