Mar. 22nd, 2005 04:04 pmSince it has come up so many times in the last week or two I'm taking the time to post the link. This is only useful for those of you who live in Maine. Other places may have different laws. Maine Advance Directive Forms
These forms alone are not enough. There was a case litigated in Florida (no, not that case, a different one) where the Living Will came up against the Healthcare Power of Attorney. The living will stated a lack of care but gave the spouse a healthcare power of attorney. The spouse went against the living will and because of the power of attorney had a foot to stand on. If you name someone in a healthcare proxy make sure they understand what your feelings are and sound them out on their's. If they can't handle it (psychologically or religiously) pick someone else. This goes for everyone, the pull the plug school, the keep me going no matter what school, and everyone in between. If you love them, don't leave them in the position of having to guess (and perhaps guessing wrong).
