By request from Looks to Alaska and perhaps a timely response to [livejournal.com profile] mizzmarvel. I had intended to write this one closer to Thanksgiving, but life got busy and complicated and I haven't been in a writing mood.

Life is a strange interconnected thing with many causes and effects woven together like a bowl of spaghetti. Perspective and memory both tend to distort. Forgive the distortions of memory, perspective, and storytelling.

Or I suppose if I was [livejournal.com profile] tronella I'd say, "!Christmas."

It has been a strange and !Christmas kind of Christmas. [livejournal.com profile] derien and I have been distracted with other things and neither of us has been in a Christmas mood at all. We agreed at the end of November not to buy presents for each other this year until after Christmas if at all. I think that's what completely killed the Christmas spirit for me. I love to buy gifts for [livejournal.com profile] derien and I think coming up with presents for her is what gets me in a Christmas mood. And the weather. It's been way too warm and sunny here for late December. The grass is still green, it's as bad as trying to celebrate Christmas in Florida!

That said, other people seem to have managed to get with the spirit of the season. We've got one wall awash with cards. It is an amazing display of international ambition and motivation. Please be assured our cards will be going out shortly and those of you on the other side of the world should be getting them by St. Valentine's Day.

Of special note: a fic by and a pic from [livejournal.com profile] daegaer, a book from [livejournal.com profile] chrisscorkscrew, a book and a bunch of other stuff from [livejournal.com profile] mizzmarvel. May each of you get something special from the deity or anthropomorphic personification of your choice.

My mom bought us a Roomba! I'll post more about that in a separate post, but ROBOT! it's fascinating. My mom also sent us a pair of tea cups and a bunch of teas. My sister sent us a selection of Indian and Thai sauces.

[livejournal.com profile] derien is recovering pretty well from the removal of her wisdom teeth. I've been struggling with too many things on my to do list and too little motivation. Today I've made some headway which is a good sign.

Oh, Merry Christmas everyone!
