reading (The Traveler)
Apr. 19th, 2007 08:11 pmI finished John Twelve Hawks "The Traveler" last night. It's conspiracy theory mixed with swordgasm fic. I was surprise to find that I'm more paranoid than the author. I must be, because I could figure out more ways for the bad guys with all the power to wipe out the good guys. If I was one of those amoral bad guys, the good guys wouldn't have made it past page fifty. It might be enlightening for people who don't think about how power can be abused, but for me it was a bit like beating a deceased equine.
I was not impressed by the author's apparent reading age. We get perspective switches within paragraphs, poor paragraph construction, repeating words too frequently, repeating the exact same sentence a few paragraphs apart. If you think Star Trek exposition is clunky, you haven't seen anything yet. Using the myth of an anonymous manuscript isn't an excuse for a lack of skill with the pen or in this case the word processor.
