reading (The New Yorker Book of Cat Cartoons)

I burned through this book of cartoons in one evening, though I can't quite remember which evening it was. Sometime in June anyway. I was not terribly impressed. I guess I just don't have a New Yorker sense of humor, most of the cartoons just didn't strike me as funny.

reading (Thud!)

I finished "Thud!" on Friday night. This was probably my least favorite book in the Watch series. In fact, it might be my least favorite of Discworld books in general. I thought that the plot felt cobbled together and forced. Scenes that may have played out quick and funny lingered on struggling to find an end, while other scenes that had a lot of potential were mentioned in passing. I thought the themes, usually expressed in over the top hyperbole or stinging satire, came out more as grumbling.

That's not to say there weren't fun parts and good lines. It's just they weren't quite as prevalent as in most Pratchett fare.
