I finished Roger Pond's "My Dog Was A Redneck..." on Wednesday I think. This
is a collection of short pieces originally written for newspaper publication.
Pond tells a good joke. There are many little two liners or one paragraph
jokes. Some are the old standards of country life, but there are a number that
sound original. As a result of the predominance of these short jokes, the
pieces often lack coherence. The central theme or overall point will be
sacrificed to the detour required to get a joke in. Pond can write some funny
stuff. Perhaps if he settled for less of the obvious jokes he might achieve
more of the slow burn humor and more coherent pieces.
Overall, this is a fun book to read. You can pick it up and read a piece in a
few minutes and enjoy the chuckles.
