Last night I was sitting merrily typing away when my screen suddenly went psychodelic. It was mostly robin's egg blue and the mouse left a strange tracer effect. I had just installed a new heat sink on my graphics card so there was an "oh, shit. What did I screw up?" moment. A bit of experimentation revealed that the problem wasn't in the computer at all, but my LCD had gone south. That's not entirely surprising, for months it's been slow to start up (flicker, flicker, flicker, solid). But it went down quick. Letting it cool off didn't help. I've temporarily stolen
derien's, so I can get some things done before she gets home.
Then this morning
derien's machine didn't want to start. With any luck that's just the power cord, because jiggling the cord seemed to bring it to life. After some careful handling it was up and running when I left for work this morning. Now I've replaced the cord and tonight we'll see if that's all it was.
I seem to be specializing in broken lately. It's not good for morale.
In other news, it's godawful hot today.
