I'm boring
Jan. 9th, 2012 08:38 pmI'm still getting used to this two day weekends thing. It's good, but I haven't quite got the swing of it yet. Yesterday started out with a lack of momentum and ended with good momentum. I had a hard time getting moving and a harder time getting focused. But once I started to focus I tore through a lot of little things.
The only projects I ended up working on was the semi-annual cleaning of the windows (curtains washes and interior windows underneath the curtains cleaned) and the door in the middle hall (hinge screw holes puttied into usefulness, door planed, but not quite enough). I ended up cleaning up a lot of small things like the book that needed the book cover, putting away that cable, scrubbing this, sorting that. It's not like the whole house sparkles or anything, but the level of junk, dust, and clutter is declining.
A couple days ago I tore apart an old hard drive and took the platters out for destruction. Yesterday I took the hammer to the platters. Now, years ago I destroyed some hard drives, that involved shattering glass and what not, lots of sharp pieces and potential for eye injury. The technology has changed quite a bit. I hammered the surfaces of these platters until there wasn't an unmarked piece, no breakage. Then I took them and hung them half off a different hard surface and pounded them into curves. They still didn't break. I feel a part of my inner 5 year old has died. I had a hammer, with a hammer everything should break! I had lots of fun trying to get them to break though. I was tempted to see what heat would do, but I heard Darwin laughing and decided it was best to stop.
