Rosie Cotton
May. 10th, 2020 06:50 pmToday was a day for working on the endless tasks. I started out with an hour of pulling rose before coming in to have my oatmeal and toast. Then it was back out for another couple hours of pulling rose with Derien. We got a good portion of one of the remaining sections done. There is still a lot to do there, but we continue to make progress.
After lunch, I decided to do something easy. We easy in a relative sense. I started pulling up honeysuckle in the section behind the woodshed and compost bins. Honeysuckle is much more rewarding to pull because large bushes can be levered over and the shallow root can usually be yanked out in the process. However, some of these were huge bushes (12ft high by 8 or more feet long). We made one big stack and when we couldn't add any more to that started another which turned out to be even larger.
Along the way we also ran into some good size rose bushes to pull and some vines to pull out of trees. We cleared out a large area (maybe 2,000sq ft). We didn't get all the way to the property line or all the way either uphill or downhill to where I had cleared before, but we got the vast majority of that section cleared of invasive brush.
