don't know my own strength
Sep. 28th, 2020 06:26 pmToday I got the tools required for pressing out (and in) the bushings for the front of the van. The tools weren't ideal, but I made them work. There were four old bushings to press out and new to press in. I managed to press out two of the four and press in the new bushings. I was pressing them with the vice because it seemed to deliver controlled force. The third one was hard, but I got it started and was using a piece of pipe to provide leverage when turning the vice closed.
Until the vice broke and fell apart in spectacular fashion.
I managed to finish the job using the clamp that came in the bushing pressing kit, some careful aligning of other bits, and a torch to heat and loosening things up more.
I'm hard on tools. There is almost nothing that can stand up to me with a good lever. Me and Archimedes.
Oh, if you've got this far, you get a bonus. A good video, but very depressing: John Prine's "Summer's End" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nXbEFTv9zr0
