It's a hot afternoon so I took on a project that would distract me. I decided to fire up The Stereo. No this isn't any old stereo, it's The Stereo. It was state of the art before I was born. It's one of those long floor standing consoles that came out just after they discovered music could be made in stereo.

The turntable motor was frozen. I haven't owned any vinyl in a long time so I never noticed. It probably hadn't been turned on in 10 or so years and that's just not good for motors. Amazingly, a little bit of turning, some lubrication in critial spots, and it's playing like the day my dad put that turntable in (it started life in a circa 1976 8 track combo unit I had).

The sound is astounding. It's a tube amp and the richness of the sound kicks butt even with 40 year old speaker cones.

[livejournal.com profile] derien is going to scream like a fangirl. She'll be able to listen to her vinyl again.
