One of the guys at work mentioned the factoid that some employees at our workplace walk as much as 8 miles in the course a a day's work. He didn't buy it. But after thinking about it a bit I do. The building is a square, probably more than 200 yards on a side. A good percentage of my workday is spent making trips from front to back for different reasons. 8 miles/day = 1 mile/hour /(1200 feet / round trip), that's less than 5 trips an hour. When you add in all the other little back an forths, I think I have that beat easily.

It's little wonder that I feel I'm in better shape and [livejournal.com profile] derien is commenting that I'm looking better. That's one of the advantages of manual labor over desk jobs.
