dodging bullets better than Neo

So last fall I dodged the insolvency bullet by scoring a temp job with a major Maine retailer. Then in late December I dodged a near miss by shifting to the returns department, thereby bouncing from one peak to another. Last day notices have been nailing people all around me. It's like being a guest of honor at the Valentines Day massacre.

Tonight I got the news that I have yet again dodged the bullet. I was offered a fulltime permanent position based on one of the many applications I have submitted since fall.

On the good side: Income will continue. I will actually begin to accrue vacation and sick time. Health insurance. The nagging feeling of complete instability will go away. Oh, and $1.00/hr more pay.

On the bad side: The $1.00/hr is shift differential, I'll be working 3rd shift. The job involves heavy lifting. I don't get to take that extended unpaid vacation which I was looking forward to after four months of overtime with no vaca or sick days.
