my addiction
This evening
derien picked up the package containing my new JH Audio in ear monitors. I've been dreaming about these for years, got the molds made almost a year ago, and took advantage of a black Friday sale to finally order them.
I've never had in ear monitors before. They are fairly easy to get in although there is no quickly pulling them off. They have to be carefully removed.
The songs I've listened to sounded generally like I expected them to. That's a good thing becuase I picked songs that I'm very familiar with and have listened to on many different systems so I know what they should sound like. For this listening the source is lossless flac files on my Cowon X7.
High percussion on Siouxsie's "Kiss Them For Me" is stunning clear. You can hear each note.
Wall of sound bass drum hits on Siouxsie's "Love in a Void" sound muffled but they might be on the original
The bass on the Who's "The Real Me" shines
Woodentops "Stop This Car" shows the armatures can handle really fast changes with grace and ease
Jane's Addiction "Jane Says" (Nothing's Shocking), light airy open sound, like falling in love on a summer day in a poor neighborhood
Alasdair Fraser and Natailie Hass "Calliope Meets Frank" seems spot on, cello and fiddle alike
Peter Murphy "Marlene Dietrich's Favorite Poem" again nothing out of place, really nice sound
Sometimes the clarity is such that certain instruments stand out more than I'm used to, like listening to good speakers after you've listened to bad speakers a lot. But they aren't too bright, just clear.
On some songs there seems to be an overemphasis on mid-bass. I noticed it particularly on Eliza Carthy's "Accordion Song". I'll have to see if it's the songs or the response.
The mid-bass seems to get muddier with increases in volume levels. That might be because of the reflections within the ear. It's a minor quibble and I only notice it at certain frequencies on some songs.
My right ear doesn't seem to perform as well as my left, the center of the sound stage is just a touch to the left. Not surprising considering it's been through two operations.
Overall, the sound is wow inducing and the fit is very comfortable.
