eorYesterday morning we went to a "read in" on the lawn of the library. A sunny warm day, so it was pleasant to sit and read. The New Gloucester radicals sit and read in the sunshine. If they get real riled up there might be tea and cookies.
Yesterday afternoon I cut down the big ash tree by the driveway. I really like that tree, but it had some significant dead limbs and a large mushroom growing out of its base. I wasn't sure how much of it was rotten inside, but since it was within falling distance of the house, the barn, the garden fence, and any cars parked in the driveway, it was time. I had toyed with cutting it down in the spring, but a nuthatch moved into one of the knot holes, so I left it until they moved away again.
After careful rigging and cutting, the tree fell just how I wanted it to. It missed the pear tree on one side and just brushed the rhododendron on the other. It looked pretty big standing, it looks a lot bigger covering the whole top lawn! I'd like to get it processed today, a very optimistic though considering the size.
The tools I ordered from Harbor Freight still haven't come after a month, so on Friday I ordered them from the evil A. Those should be here on Tuesday. Will not be ordering anything else online from Harbor Freight. Must get van back together and inspected.
