It is hard to find words to express how far some of the actions of government agencies have been from what democracy in the United States should be. Unwarranted secret wiretaps when there was a method set up to get them legally shows callous disregard for separation of powers and one of the basic tenants of the constitution. Holding individuals without access to lawyers and without charge for extended periods of time is more fitting a fascist state than the leading democracy in the world. If we don't uphold the rule of law then the only differences between us and the people we are at war with is that we have more destructive weapons and more to lose in the war.
You seem to serve the people of Maine well on a day to day basis. My instincts tell me lines have been crossed that should not have been crossed. I hope you have the vision and strength to make sure this is truly investigated not just swept aside.
