Colorblind?

A number of years ago I discovered a singer who I liked and picked up a few of her albums. Tanita Tikaram is nice for mellow contemplative moods. I like the sound of her voice and her phrasing. Several years later a friend who self identifies with her Native American roots was all excited that I listened to a "native" singer. I didn't think of it that way. I thought I listened to a "good" singer. I wasn't listening to a "native" singer any more than I was admiring a "gay" composer when I listened to Cole Porter's wordsmithing.

Food:

Today's curry is simmering on the stove. I didn't bother to make fresh bread today. I wasn't in the mood for that much effort and it's warm enough in here without a very hot oven.

News:

Interesting article. I may be cynical, but some things do strike as more theater than military prudence. Why did every branch of the service get involved? I realize joint operations are more common, but after a certain point you end up with a couple of units standing around trying to stay out of the way. Also, Jessica Lynch is the perfect poster person for recruiters. Her elder brother, also in the service, was moved to a recruiting position when she was sent to Iraq. Her younger sibling is also joining the service this fall. The county she comes from is awash with unemployment and poverty. Can't find a job, the US Army will take care of you. Yes, there is also the cute factor. There were five others rescued but how often do we even hear their names.

The whole war was done up like the best PR campaign a major corporation could ever imagine. The embedded reporting assured we'd get great coverage of exactly what the military wanted us to see and very little of the other things going on. It was all an incredible publicity feat. If such incredible insight and raw power where used for good just imagine what it could accomplish. Ah, don't bother it ain't gonna *(@$ing happen.
