sitting in the dark
May. 25th, 2003 07:17 pmWe went to see a matinee today of "Bend it Like Beckham". I liked it. Of course it contained soccer and Indian food so it couldn't be all that bad. The story was in basis a standard formula (young person struggles against all odd and social barriers to pursue dream), but they put some twists in it that aren't the norm. I also like the fact that they didn't play out certain parts -way too long- like I think American comedies do. The funny bits where allowed to be funny and move along. They could have done without some of the weird camera angle quick back and forth cuts, but those are all the fashion in film these days so I guess they had to. All in all an enjoyable romp if you want to get away from the continuous action action movies in the other five theaters.
Derien: "I thought you might want to see Matrix: Reloaded on the big screen"
Eor: "If I wanted to see Matrix: Reloaded on the big screen I'd go to a theater with a big screen, not the Nickelodean"
The screens are kinda small but not as small as the one in the Copley Mall Cinema. I've seen big screen TV's bigger than those things.
On the way back we stopped at another used bookstore and picked up more books. It was a sizeable haul that should keep me busy for a week or more. The prices weren't as favorable at that store, but the selection was good and it wasn't too dusty. We've got three used bookstores within four blocks of the house, it's a terrible thing. ;)
