Last night I finished Terry Pratchett's "Wintersmith". It took me longer than most Pratchett books because I was busy dealing with things in real life and didn't have much time to read. Why is it I can't sit around reading all day, every day?

This is the first Tiffany Aching book I've read. I missed the previous one and will have to track back around to them eventually. I like the character, she is real and admirable. I enjoy the dynamic of the witches and the setting, shown in this one book perhaps better than any other. I also liked the drawing of the Wintersmith and Lady. They are naturally limited characters, but I think they ring true for what they are.

I didn't like Roland's part in the end at all. I think Pratchett should have just left that bit out. I really like the fact that Tiffany worked things out on her own and enjoyed the resolution of the main plot line immensely. It was pure art. But the book felt like Pratchett had worked out two thirds of the plot, realized he'd taken up seven eighths of the pages, then had to rush to get the end into the last sixty pages.
