A sunny beautiful day today. I tried to convince the person in charge of scheduling to let me out early but he wasn't buying it. There was too much work. But when I did get out of work I stopped by the auto parts store to get the necessary socket and completed the installation of the second shock.

Things I learned today: (I knew this one already, I swear) When the entire force of the upper body at the end of a 18 inch breaker bar is applied to an object there is considerable tension brought to bear. When said breaker bar slips, all this tension is immediately converted to kinetic energy. When said kinetic energy is used to pinch a small portion of one finger against a stationary metal edge the results are stunning. I did not even use the appropriate invocations of profanity because sometimes pain transcends profanity and arrives immediately at "Oh, this is not going to be good."

The base of my fingernail is black. I will be surprised if it doesn't fall off over the course of the next few weeks. I imagine when the feeling returns doing almost anything will be quite painful.
