reading (A Miscellany of Men"
Jan. 16th, 2008 05:02 pmI finished "A Miscellany of Men" this afternoon. It took me a long time to get through it. I think that was a combination of the content and the distractions of life. I found the book to be a bit of a mixed bag. Some of the essays were very clever, some were too clever for their own good. Some were very poetic and beautiful, some an exercise in everyday ranting. Chesterton has a great grasp of language, allegory, and complexity. When he doesn't overuse it, the results are spot on.
