day in, day out
Mar. 10th, 2010 08:03 pmWow, when I try to write about what I've been doing, it doesn't seem like I have much to write about, but I'm busy all the time.
I've been trying to get ready for the condo association meeting that we're hosting on Monday. There are several contentious issues on the agenda and I've been trying to get as many facts together as possible so that everyone can operate from a common starting point. As president I have to run the meeting, which mean it's even more in my interest than usual to get people to play nice together and to keep the meeting moving along to an end.
I'm done working in the basement for the time being. Until people reliquish their rights to the doors that are stored down there, there's nothing more to do. When they decide they don't want the doors, I'll drag the doors upstairs and get them hauled off. One stack of pallets that I hauled up a few weeks ago has disappeared. This is happiness. The other stack was hidden behind the dumpster and had fallen over. So today I took the time to restack it in the exact same spot the other pile disappeared from. Maybe the aliens will abduct that stack too!
When I got home from work this afternoon I went out in the back yard and worked on cleanup a bit. I freed up one bush from the massive climbing vine that had completely covered it. Moved little rocks. Moved little bits of railroad tie. Broke up most of the limbs and twigs that were sitting around threw them on the burn pile. There is considerable work to do out there to make it even marginally nice, but if I can put in a few hours here and there, it will get done. Somehow I have to cut up the metal stair that is laying on the ground with the tree growing through it. Well, around it really, part of it is literally embedded in the tree. A cutting torch would be the ideal, but I have a feeling this will be another case of me abusing the hell out of my poor little dremel tool. (They will cut anything if you're patient enough.)
At work I've managed to get a couple of medium sized projects out of the way in the last week. That almost makes room for the couple of huge projects that are jostling for attention like large elephants in a small room. We still haven't gotten the results of the re-org in my area. Someone in another department (that I once thought re-org'd frequently) commented on how often we get re-arranged. Re-orgs make for stress. My boss said nice things about me in my review today and his boss at least pretended he cared as he came in to grab my boss for a working lunch. Not all good though. It's easy to talk nice, it's harder to follow through.
