Today wasn't much of a finishing things day. It was warm and overcast most of the day, a good day for working outside. I started with trying to assemble the axle and CV joint assemblies. Hint one, don't bother to paint new axles before putting on the CV joints because there is simply no way to get the CV joints on without putting them into a vice and tightening it A LOT. I tried to be nice and wrap them in cloth then put them in the vice, but I just ended up with buggered paint with cotton stuck to it. I did finally get the CV joints on, then took one off because I'd forgotten the inner washer, then took that one off and put it back on again with the washer in place. When I was done I masked off the boots and the joints so I could sand, prime, and paint the middle parts of the axles which had gotten buggered. It wasn't as easy as the folks on youtube made it look, but then again, most of them are using old axles and old CV joints, so maybe it will be easier when they start to wear. Now I'm waiting on tools because there is no way I'm going to be able to get the retaining rings in place without a proper tool. I tried, but not long, just not feasible.

While I was having fun with car parts, Derien mulched some of the thimbleberries. That's a job involving contortion and balance because you have to get under the outer canes to get into the center of the patch and the patch is on a 45 degree slope.

For a break from being frustrated by auto parts I went up into the forest and pulled some more rose. Derien joined me for a while and we did a good chunk of one of the remaining sections, probably about a third and the most overgrown third at that. It seems like a forever job, but we have covered more ground this year than we ever have before.

Then to finish up the day we dug out a bunch of stuff that had snuck in among the lilacs by the garden fence. There was some rose, there was honeysuckle, there was buckthorn, and something else which may have been a tree trying to grow up in the middle of one lilac bush. I should really make a point of cleaning places like that out at least once a year because some of that stuff was big enough to be really hard to remove.

Tomorrow is a workday, so my body will have a chance to recover. It is best if I don't have more than three days off in a row.
