Today I started off drilling the last of the holes in the tarp brackets and cutting all the pieces of metal to length. I got the brackets and rail reassembled just in time because it was getting hot out by the time I got the tarp attached. With everything assembled, the top clears the new structure going up and down with about a centimeter to spare, pretty precision engineering for just making things up. I still have to sand and paint the metal pieces, but for now it's a functional sun shade.

After that I retreated to a spot of shade and weeded one of the blackberry patches. The next spot of shade was down by the burn area to cut up some of the bigger pieces of wood with the chain saw. Then on to another spot of shade where I tried to move one of the rocks from the lower 40. It didn't take long to give up on that and move into deeper shade and pull some rose and honeysuckle that survives between the septic and the walking path along the property line. When I came back up the hill I got distracted by what Derien was doing, pulling bamboo from the front flower beds. I started pulling miscellaneous weed from the same area. Overall with high temps and not a cloud in the sky, just keeping going from one thing to another was good progress. There are always more weeds to pull, but it made a hot afternoon productive.
