We went to see "Order of the Phoenix" with
littleredhead and
groundctrl on Friday night.
derien and I ended up talking about the movie and the upcoming book until midnight.
I like it much better than the last movie. The Harry angst was greatly reduced from the book, I was grateful for that. Luna comes across much better in the movie than in the book. To me, in the book, she felt like a cardboard cutout. She came across more human and more interesting in the movie. Evanna Lynch does the role perfectly.
Also of note, Imelda Staunton provides us with a creeperific Umbridge. Evil.
I found the pacing and flow good through most of the movie. This is high praise from me, I'm picky about pacing in movies that are supposed to be exciting. The only part that felt really clunky to me was the climax. Do all the directors do that during sex too? Do they just stop in mid-stroke and examine for a few minutes what a quintessential moment it's going to be for their partners? Are they all single! If not they should be. This one wasn't as bad as many I've seen, but it pisses me off immensely when they interrupt a good breathtaking pace and rip the undercarriage out of my suspension of disbelief at the same time.
What's with the shooting up at Harry's neck shots.
derien said the reason Harry was feeling angry all the time was the steroids. Seriously, I don't care how much Harry has been using the Room of Requirements as a gym.
I loved the Ron and Hermoine interactions, I think they worked the way the book should have. I didn't like the Harry and Sirius interactions, I think they came off as cold and stilted.
There were some things that didn't make it into the movie, but I have no major gripes with what didn't make the cut. It's a long book and they did a good job stuffing as much as they did into the movie. I did miss some of the things that were left out, but they had to leave something out.
