little anarchies

On Labor Day I wrote about my desire to avoid contributing to the operation of the odious machine. Today I realized a way that I can relatively easily stop one aspect of that contribution.
For years now I've rarely carried cash. I have a habit of paying with plastic and paying it off every month. I almost never pay finance charges and have the convenience of not having to think ahead and carry enough cash.
Now, I don't pay finance charges, but the merchants I purchase from pay 2% or so of the purchase price to large financial institutions. I hate large financial institutions. They have credit policies designed to ensnare and impoverish anyone foolish to fall for the bait. They are predatory lenders like mortgage brokers never dreamed of being.
It dawned on me today that I'm supporting them with real money, every month. I will stop doing this now. Whenever possible I will revert to a cash transaction. It will be more burdensome for me, but it is something I can do. And the businesses I support will make 2% more money on all I buy.

Simple really. Sometimes we're blind to the simplest things.
