I read somewhere (and no I can't remember where, probably an article on CNN.com), that currently 25% of families in the US are "traditional" families (1 m adult, 1 f adult, various children). Now I'm no rocket scientist, but that means 75% of us are in non-traditional families (extended families, single parent households, gay/lesbian partnerships, unmarried partners, singles, etc.). If I were a politician and wanted to get re-elected, I wouldn't be trying to position myself exclusively with the 25%. The other 75% might not be a single unified group so it's hard to satisfy all of them, but I wouldn't want to alienate all of them at once on any one issue.

Oh, in the news, those who believe that alcohol is evil may see the hand of God in this. It has wheat in it, so it really doesn't break my heart too much.

Just so you feel comfortable, the president will be taking the next week off for a well deserved vacation. He'll start looking at the economy next week after sitting on his 1600 acre ranch for a week. Why don't his colloquial speech habits convince me he understands what the average American lives through?
