[livejournal.com profile] derien,[livejournal.com profile] littleredhead,[livejournal.com profile] groundctrl, and I took a trip down to Carver,MA, camped in the Miles Standish State Forest, and went to King Richard's Faire this weekend. The trip down was easy and we arrived right about when we expected to. We got the tent set up, had some lunch, then made a quick run to the local store. When we got back to the site, it was just beginning to sprinkle. We quickly deployed the tarps, trying to stay under them for most of the process. It rained lots. We are skilled with tarps though, so it wasn't a bad evening. We even made a fire in the pouring rain, just to prove we could.

Saturday morning arrived with some dripping from the trees, but no major precipitation. We took that as a good sign, got garbed up, and headed to the Faire. The faire was fun, the food was good, and the weather held the whole day. We didn't get to see all the performers we wanted to see, or eat all the food there was to eat, but we saw a lot and ate a lot. All was good. Saturday evening there was a pleasant sit by the campfire cooking things over the flames and relaxing. We didn't end up getting to bed until late, which may not have been the brightest thing. I think the evening was too pleasant to end early.

This morning the alarm rang all too early, but as it turns out just early enough. There was a drizzle as we began to take things down that turned into a steady rain. By the time we had everything packed up it was pretty much a soaking rain. We headed north, stopped at a Cracker Barrel for breakfast, then continued our way around Boston and up into the Northern Wilds through rain that varied between heavy and downpour. We got back to Portland just after noon, right about when we'd planned. A good trip, even if it was wet as usual.

Miles Standish Forest seems like a good place to go with a kayak and some walking shoes. We didn't a chance to do anything in the park but shelter under tarps or sit around the fire, but the ponds were pretty.

[livejournal.com profile] derien left this afternoon for a week of training. She was originally flying out of Portland, but her flight was cancelled so she had to take a bus down to Boston and fly out from there. I don't actually know she made it onto the plane, but I have to assume so, because I haven't heard from her to the contrary.

I'm sure I've gotten to mention a lot of things, but I'm just a little bit tired at this point and everything is turning into a blur.

I am cooking a roast and trying to dry some of the bits of tarp and tent. I currently have a section of tarp spread across the entire kitchen, suspended between the plant hook on the livingroom side and one of the kitchen cabinets on the other side. I also have a tarp hanging folded over the back door, that won't dry it, but at least some of the water can drip off it. I'll probably transfer it to the curtain rod in the bathroom tonight or tomorrow.
