"Everybody's seen the little redhead.
That's right, everybody." -- Ray Stevens "Shriner's Convention"

I'm sorry, I couldn't resist. I was actually thinking of the squirrel revival, but I didn't jump forward. If you can't understand the segue between Siouxsie and Ray Stevens, you're hopeless low brow. Go commit ritual suicide now. And if you can't hack that, go home and flog yourself to The Jonas Brothers.

"With a half crazed Mississippi squirrel" -- Ray Stevens "Squirrel Revival"

"Mama, I'm fine if you happen to wonder,
I don't have much money, but I still get around,
I haven't made church in near thirty-six Sundays,
So fuck all those West Nashville grand ballroom gowns." -- Jimmy Buffet "West Nashville..."

"Well, you've got your father's hair,
you've got your father's nose,
but you've got my soul." -- The Replacements "Sadly Beautiful"

You can rescue kittens. You can even rescue dogs. But you can't rescue people.

"I'll be sad in heaven,
you won't follow me there." -- The Replacements "Can't Hardly Wait"

Whenever I hear that song I remember of a story by a guy who's friend convinced him to illegally climb one of the bridges across the Mississippi River between Minneapolis and Saint Paul (complete with Wrigley's chewing gum pro (protection) and a boat anchor). The story was hilarious perfect post-modern city jungle stupidity. It also epitomizes the mid-western subconscious desire for mountains in a way few written works have. The Replacements were a Minneapple band, so the connection is more than perfect.

"You know what you need is a lot of revival,
the train flashes by, and you're lost in a spiral." -- Liz Phair "Money"

Unrelated, the big monoliths rock.

"A mind, with a heart of its own." -- Tom Petty "A Mind..."

"She walked through the corn,
leading down to the river,
her hair shown like gold,
in the early morning sun." -- Tom T. Hall "Fox on the Run"

There are no rules to attraction. If you profess hard and fast rules, you're a fool or a liar.

"Somewhere beyond the pavement,
you'll find the living dead." -- Tom Petty "Zombie Zoo"

"People might think that we were on our honeymoon,
But we'd know better, even though we'd slept in the same room" -- Crash Test Dummies "The Voyage"

I've given up many of my daydreams from my teenage years as completely absurd. But I gotta admit, that's one that still captures me as well as if I'd heard the song when I was sixteen. Of course, when I was sixteen it would have been more sexual, back then everything was sexual. Now it captures me for other reason or at least in other ways.
