the reading year in summary

This is the first year in many where I read an average of one book a week. That isn't easy when you have a house to work on. This year it is only because I had forced rest after the heart attack. If it weren't for that, I wouldn't even have come close.
Looking back I did read some long books this year. It's hard to pick a favorite, but it is probably one of the Arthur Ransome books, maybe Coot Club. Lease favorite was probably Masterpieces of Fantasy and Wonder, which was a very weak collection in my estimation. Most disappointing was Noir, my expectations were high. It felt like Moore got tired of writing in film noir style early, then just wanted to write a regular book and it turned out neither fish nor fowl.
Now I'm working my way through 1,000+ pages of Harlan Ellison, a book on woodworking, and the most recent Asimov's. I usually don't have that many books going at once, but the first two are best taken in small doses.
