Well, I finally have a chance to sit down and type, because I have to be awake and can't be outside because I'm expecting a phone call. I may just go ahead and stay up until 6pm so that I can make sure I don't miss the UPS man.

My hobby during the week this week has been working on the little green four wheeled wonder. All the lights are once again working. In the course of that I discovered the carpets really, really need to be cleaned and the back of my shirt is not the most efficient method. It also has fresh spark plugs, plug wires, distributor cap, rotor, PCV valve, and ground cable. It is running better now, but may still require a trip to the dealer to find out why the Service Engine light keeps periodically coming on.

Last weekend it was time for some quality time with the van. I pulled the starter out, kind of rebuilt it (I really don't have the tools or parts to rebuild a starter), and reinstalled it. It started. We'll see if that trend continues. I also changed all the small vacuum hoses. As an excuse to stand out in the sunshine I cleaned large portions of the engine compartment. This not only makes it look nicer, but makes it easier to do other work, and possible to see where any oil leaks might be coming from. The nice UPS man has brought several installments of parts. Those will probably start being replaced tomorrow morning.

Today he will hopefully deliver the largest package, new allow wheels for the van. The tires on the van have been on there since before we bought it (4 years). They are firestone rollover lawsuit specials (FR480s). The right rear has had a plug in it for 3 1/2 years from when it got a screw through it. Aside from these facts, in the wind the van can be downright scary to drive. I learned while researching new tires that my current ones are out of spec from what VW allows on the van. So new wheels (taller) and new tires (shorter) are in the offing. Hopefully that combination will be a) safer b) easier to drive c) cooler looking.

Oh, also got my teeth looked at. Dentist says cap will have to be ripped off and replaced. Will be scheduling a date for that at some point, probably mid-June. In a separate visit, the hygienist gave me a lecture and told me it would take a second round to finish the cleaning. It's progress.

Also, we got some really good thick dark curtains that have made sleeping much better. It's not like night but it's close enough that you can kind of ignore the difference. Between the darker room, the less noisy street and the less noisy neighbors I can actually sleep soundly, when I'm not staying up for some reason.

Have planned a trip to visit Butonquail for Memorial Day weekend.

It's amazing what you can get done when you don't sleep.
