eorThursday morning after work I had a dentist appointment to get a damaged crown removed and begin the replacement process. I'll cut it because some people might get squicked by dentistry. Although it is humorous.
So I rush out of work and down the road to get to the dentists by 8am. All of the dental people are just starting their day. I had started mine about 8pm and was running out of gas fast.
My dentist got down to work and numbed half my face. After he had me thoroughly drooling he began drilling around the bottom of the crown so he could pry it off. He had to go to the next room to get a better tool for pulling the piece off once he was done drilling. He started trying to pry it, which I imagine is difficult because there is nothing that he should be using for leverage. The assistant was making jokes about needing a little tiny Wonderbar (TM). I'm familiar with Wonderbars as she said, "you can do a lot of destruction with those things." At one point something he did hit the back of my throat and made me gag so I sat up, said "sorry", and laid back down. As soon as he started again, I gagged again, sat up and realized something was halfway down.... oops not halfway anymore. The assistant gave me a cup to try to cough it up into, but it was gone.
I asked, "was that it?"
The assistant said, "yep."
The doctor left the room quickly, seeming quite embarrassed. While the assistant was taking impressions for a temp he made phone calls to a gastro doc and arranged for an X-ray. So once I got my temporary on I got to head to the local quick care and have a chest x-ray done. After more waiting there was a picture with what appears to be a porcelain crown about two inches below my lungs. I didn't get done with all that until after 1pm.
I didn't realize that I had signed up for the Epic Medical Treatments plan.
Oh, my lungs look clear and I don't have any cracked ribs. :)
