I didn't get a whole lot checked off the list yesterday. I started with cleaning up the sand from the plow by the driveway. I did finish with that project, about 10 more bird seed bags with sand. Then I went up the hill and worked on pulling rose for a while. I did clear a decent sized area, but I didn't finish even one of the areas.
I also spent a lot of time reading about fire supression technology.
Today was a busy day. Our order from Fedco Trees came yesterday afternoon. We usually go up and pick up our tree/bush order about this time of year, but this year they aren't allowing pickup, so I had to switch to delivery service. Most years getting everything planted from our order takes two days, but this year we had a smaller than usual order and were quite productive early on. We planted 12 highbush blueberries and 1 American cranberry in the clearing by the spring behind the barn (where the big double pine tree came down two years ago). Then we cleared a space and planted two cornelian cherries near the rock wall at the bottom of the property. That took some time because there were several large honeysuckles overgrown in that area and one large buckthorn tree to be removed before the planting could begin. It was exhausting work, clearing, hauling, raking, then planting. After that we went up to the forest and pulled rose for an hour or so. We finished one of the sections. There are three sections remaining of varying size and density.
So a productive and exhausting day. Tomorrow I have to deal with the lettuce seedlings. I may plant some of them outside just to see if they survive. I really don't want to pot all of them because I just have too many! If I put anything in the garden I will have to put up my deer deterents, they love to jump the fence and clean out the garden for me.
