Are we there yet?
Aug. 12th, 2004 09:50 pmOkay, so when I last left off we were headed across the ridgeline from Little Haystack Mt. to Lafayette Mt. As we were journeying across the clouds on the west side of the ridge got progressively lower until they were building up on the west side of the ridge and periodically spilling across.

We were wondering whether we'd get rained on, or at the very least find the view from Lafayette to look like the inside of a ping pong ball. As it turned out, the clouds lifted a little bit, so it was neither a complete fog or spectacular views.

We quickly made our way down off the ridge to the Greenleaf Hut where we used the facilities, refilled our water bottles, and had a sit down. Then we set out with a will. Okay, with a limp and a firm desire to be at the bottom. The hike down was uneventful. We hiked down the ridge in the prior pictures, which we nicknamed the dragon's tail. It got progressively warmer and sunnier as we descended. By the time we reached the bottom around 4pm it was quite sunny and beautiful. That's New England weather for you. You never can tell.

We made the long trip home and ate a huge chunk of meat and a pile of rice for supper and went to bed quite bushed. We were muscle sore for about three days, but suffered no real injury.
