A while back I was contemplating the current incarnations of intentional communities. As with most things like this, I think about them for awhile, then I intend to write up my thought but don't get around to it. At some later point I might actually sit down and write. This is one of those rare times.

I have heard of several variations on the intentional community. Here I'll talk about two of the more major groupings and throw out an idea for a scaling variation on a third. Long. Very long. )

A few days ago [livejournal.com profile] derien and I were observing that despite all our efforts to the contrary, our garbage is consistently getting stinky before it gets full. [livejournal.com profile] derien said that was proof that our recycling efforts are paying off. That's probably pretty accurate. We now take multiple bags to recycling every week. The unfortunate side effect is the organics that do end up in the garbage have plenty of time to get going on decomposition.

In the continuing effort to reduce our electric consumption we picked up more compact florescent bulbs today. We're trying to find ones we like for all the rooms. The full spectrum one did not go over well as a reading light, but it isn't too bad if toned down with another bulb in an overhead light.
