Today read an article by a guy who has set a goal of adding 100 people to his professional network in the coming year. Maybe it's just me being anti-social, but that seems excessive. Can he really have a meaningful interaction with that new 100 while maintaining last year's and all previous years' crops? Or is it just glad-handing?

My former neighbor who left me holding the bag on condo association tax forms and unpaid bills when he moved contacted me to spread his social network as soon as he became a real estate broker. It made me feel so warm and fuzzy.

I'll add you to my social network because I like you or I find you interesting. The only profit I intend to get from the experience is the profit of knowing you. The only benefit I expect to derive, the benefit of your company. And that's plenty. If at some point it turns out I can help you find a job or you can help me find a job, great! But that's not the point.
