reading (HHGTTG Radio Scripts)
May. 6th, 2006 05:57 pmWhat has Arthur, Ford, Zaphod, Trillian, Marvin, and a lot of sound effects typed out in text? The scripts to the original Hitchhiker series. Yes, they are all here along with many others. I laughed, I cried, I ate bon bons. Well, not those last two, but at least the first bit is true. Curling up with the gang is like sleeping with six of your closest friends, as long as one of your friends is metal and chronically depressed and another has two heads (on his shoulders I mean, get your mind out of the gutter). The footnotes to the scripts provide insight into the stunning technology used to put the show together and the thoughtful, deliberate, premeditated nature of the writing process. Oh, if you're interested I can sell you a sure thing stock in an Arcterian four legged chicken farm. Once restaurants figure out that these babies have no less than six wings and are born boneless they won't be able to get enough of them.
Were was I? Oh, yeah. Fun book.
Every version of the Hitchhiker's Guide is different. Part of the fun of it is trying to remember which bits are in which format. I'm pretty sure there were bits in these scripts that were distinctly not in the books. There were even bits in these scripts that never made it into the radio series, sound editors and actors being the people that they are. So don't expect exactly what you've read, seen, or heard before. The Adams Uncertainty Principle certainly applies.
