Yes, we have arrived. Relatives were visited, historic places were seen, books were read, time was wasted, all the important bits of a vacation. We return to hearth and home. The plants, Phil and Al, survived the week looking no worse for the wear. In our absence the tub was refinished so we now have a nice white shiny tub instead of a collection of rust.

I'll detail more later once I swim back out of the travelling fog.

I read David Sedaris' "Me Talk Pretty One Day" in less than twenty-four hours finishing it on the plane from Atlanta to Daytona. It's quite funny. Sedaris can turn an everyday thing into a delightful story. He twists things just right and has a delivery that I really enjoy. I couldn't help but share some bits of it with [livejournal.com profile] derien even though I was trying to hold back and not spoil the book for her.

This book isn't meant to change your life, it's meant to make a bit of it more enjoyable. It accomplishes the task well.

During the first few days of vacation I read the second book [livejournal.com profile] derien's brother gave to us about his calling. Look back to #32 on this list to see the review of the first.

First, let me say that the best bit of Dr. Lee's (I'll use Dr. Lee because those are the two bits of his name that have stayed the same) writing that I've read is the Preface to this book. The Preface is clear, flows well, and expresses viewpoints that seem very sensible to me. The rest of the book doesn't even read like it was written by the same person.
