I finished Carl Hiaasen's "Strip Tease" while sitting in the waiting room today. It was the usual mixture of disreputable characters and jaded, kind hearted souls. Notably absent from this one was the charismatic older man who had women throwing themselves at him, thank [insert deity here]. There was the completely psycho thug, but you need a completely psycho thug to mix the plot up a bit every now and then.
The plot and the characters are really standard Hiaasen fare. If you've read some of his other books, you know the drill. The writing is funny, the plot is fun on some levels, but there is a reason I don't repeatedly what the same season of Law and Order over and over. It makes me appreciate Christopher Moore, his humor stays the same, but his plots and characters vary more.
My favorite line (more or less): "His arm stuck straight out the window, making it look like he was permanently signalling left. Since it was Dade County no one noticed."
