81. Asimov's February 2008
I finished this month's edition of Asimov's in two days. It was a welcome break in the middle of the Kensington Ladies.
82. Kensington Ladies' Erotica Society "Ladies' Own Erotica"
"Ladies' Own Erotica" took me much longer to get through than I expected. It was originally published as two books, each coming in at just over 200 pages. I did not find it particularly erotic. The blurbs and self promotion talk about breaking out and breaking free, but the stories seemed to indulge in many of the cliches that you see in bodice rippers and American societal gender assumptions. There was a healthy helping of stories overflowing with flowery language. You may be familiar with that kind of erotica where no body part can be named, instead any anatomical reference is replaced by a phase full of multi-syllable fluff. Other of the stories were good stories, but not particularly erotic stories. Nothing stepped very far from the straight and narrow path, except those things sanctioned by society at large.
