roses are red, bruises are blue
May. 17th, 2020 06:30 pmThis weekend has been a very tiring three days.
Friday it was supposed to be raining all day, so when I woke up and it wasn't raining I rushed out and started pulling rose up in the forest. I pulled rose for two hours and it still wasn't raining, so I switched to clearing honeysuckle, barberry, and rose from the other project area. I worked on that basically all day. I made a couple of big piles.
Saturday we started out on rose again, working on that for a couple of hours. We almost finished clearing one of the sections I had made in the forest, but there is still just a little bit to go. Then we went to cleaning out more honeysuckle, vines, barberry, and rose in the other section. By 4pm we had finished the last bits of the first 100ftx20ft area. We also cleaned the overgrown and dead looking honeysuckle out from the area by the compost bins. We had trimmed them back 5 years ago and should have removed them at the time. In the intervening years they had gotten completely out of control. It took a hydralic jack and all our strength to pull one of them. Next, we did our first brush burn of the season, which involved fighting with lots of rose and throwing it on a roaring fire. We might have burned half of the pile down by the burn area. WIth the time to let the fire die down before dousing it, that took 5 hours.
Today was a low energy day. I took a lot of breaks to sit in the sun and watch the birds and bees. I did pull some more rose roots out and Derien started replenishing the pile by the burn area. The cleared area is now another 20 or 30 feet longer and has met up with space which I partially cleared two years ago, so the remainder should be relatively easy. I also removed all the curtains and cushions from the van so they can get washed and so it'll be easier to clean the interior surfaces. I started mowing the lawn but that was just too much for today, so I didn't get much done. It didn't help that I started on the hardest part: steep, rocky, and wet. I landed on my ass once, which is never fun when you're trying to hang on to a mower.
So yeah, three days of still working on endless projects. I'll be glad to work on endless projects for work tomorrow.
