Friday evening there was a ladybug flying around the kitchen, landing here and there. I didn't pay much attention. At this time of year the ladybugs which have hibernated in south facing areas start to wake up way too early for their own good. It happens every year. There is nothing for them to eat and the temps at night must freeze their little wings off. I thought no more about it. I'm not so kind to the early emerging wasps and flies. I will take the time to hunt them down and dispose of them. I guess I'm speciesist.

Yesterday morning after my second breakfast I put the stainless steel kettle on to have some tea. We have to pay attention to it, because it doesn't whistle anymore. The flapper for the spout broke off long ago and it just steams up the house. But it still holds water, so why get a new one. Fortunately I was only one room away folding clothes when it started to humidify the kitchen. As I was pulling out the teabag out of my cup I looked down and said, "what the hell is that!" I didn't try the tea, just poured it out and started over.

This story is done Maine storyteller style. I hope you enjoy it.
